Lavender Is For Lovers True

March 16, 2015 by Young K.

Lavender isn’t just pretty to look at and delightful to smell, it’s a soothing herb that can be used to calm your stomach, skin, and mind, and is also an incredibly versatile herb for cooking. Lavender is an herb native to northern Africa and the mountainous regions of the Mediterranean. Long renowned for its calming effects, the health benefits of lavender essential oil include its ability to remove nervous tension, relieve pain, disinfect scalp and skin, and enhance blood circulation.

I never knew there were so many lavender farms in Virginia! The lavender fields begin blooming in May and are in full bloom in June and July. I already know where I’ll be spending a significant amount of my time this summer adventuring and taking photographs. Here are a few farms that are the perfect day trip distance from Washington D.C.

  • White Oak Lavender Farm
  • Seven Oaks Lavender Farm
  • Lavender Fields Herb Farm
  • Evergreen Lavender Farm

Niagara Falls Frozen In Ice

February 21, 2015 by Young K.

Brutally cold temperatures have frozen over vast parts of Niagara Falls, with snow and mist covering the surrounding area, creating a real life Frozen wonderland. According to NBC News, temperatures at Niagara Falls dropped to 13 below zero this week, and haven’t risen above freezing at all in February.

Although sections of the three waterfalls that make up the natural attraction appear to be entirely frozen, the Niagara River continues to flow below. The last time Niagara Falls completely froze over was in 1848, due to an upstream blockage...
