Covet Her Room » Blair Waldorf
Blair Waldorf from the CW’s Gossip Girls is a bossy gal and one of my style icons so naturally I want her entire wardrobe, her Park Avenue penthouse, and well, her life. While every carefully curated piece in Blair’s bedroom is lustworthy, my favorite has always been her bed. Specifically, her bedding.
In true Blair fashion, her silk linens are from ultra luxe Kumi Kookoon and run from $412-$488 for each sheet and from $763-$988 for the duvet cover, depending on the size of the mattress. Pillow cases and shams run between $120 and $168, also depending on the size. The bedskirt ranges from $699 to $875 and the throw runs from $875 to $1,998. For those of you who must have Blair's exact set, the sheets, duvet, and bedskirt are in Champagne color, the pillow shams are Snowcone, and the throw is in Shitake.
For the rest of us who want to get as close as possible to the real thing without the hefty price tag, I’ve scoured the depths of the internet, obsessively searching and hunting down where I could buy silk sheets in similar shades. Unfortunately, there is currently no other line that carries Kumi Kookoon's gorgeous Champagne color which seems to alternate between nude and pink depending on the lighting. In addition, I've found quality silk linens are tough to find because they’re either astronomical in price or questionably cheap products from China. The production of silk originated in China but for some reason there is no Chinese brand or manufacturer I've come across that seems to produce high quality, well rated silk sheets (step it up, China!). My top two contenders are Gingerlily, a UK based company that ships internationally, and Manito, a Canadian company that also offers international shipping.
No matter which company you go with or before you write off these linens for being too expensive, remember that silk is a long term investment. We spend one third (I've even heard one half) of our lives in bed and a good night’s sleep offers personal health and beauty benefits, from boosting the body’s immune system and alleviating stress to preventing bags and dark circles under the eyes. Silk is a temperature regulator, hypoallergenic, less absorbent than cotton (meaning your expensive night creams will stay on your face), prevents wrinkles, and keeps your hair glossy. So while you may not be able to afford an entire bedding set just yet, why not start by swapping out a pillow case or two?
