March 04, 2015 by Young K.

Mark Lippert, the U.S. ambassador to South Korea, was attacked and injured by a man with a small razor blade moments before delivering an address at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul, South Korea and U.S. officials have confirmed.

Ambassador Lippert sustained injuries to his cheek and hand, according to CNN. He is currently receiving medical treatment, and his condition is reported to be stable.

Korea's YTN TV aired a picture of the ambassador splattered with blood, and reported a man, identified only by his surname "Kim," was arrested. Lippert, previously the U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian affairs, was nominated by President Obama to serve as ambassador to South Korea last year.
