‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ Is A Brilliant Good Time

February 24, 2015 by Young K. in Media

Director Matthew Vaughn’s newest film, Kingsman: The Secret Service, another graphic novel adaptation from the incredibly talented Mark Millar, is bold, stylish, and thoroughly entertaining. Vaughn’s previous works, which include Stardust, Kick Ass, and X-Men: First Class, all showcase his daring ambition and originality, present film included. More than just a James Bond spoof, Kingsman pays homage to the classic spy films we grew up loving, replete with double-breasted suits (paired with Oxfords, not Brogues), everyday items turned weapons, and witty British dialogue.

Hilarious and suspenseful all the way through, there is never a dull moment in the film, or lack of exploding or flying body parts for that matter. The shockingly violent but beauteously orchestrated fight sequences and well-crafted adventure comprises the perfect blend of action and comedy. The entire cast, including Taron Egerton as street kid turned gentleman spy “Eggsy”, his adorable pug, Michael Caine who can do no wrong, Sofia Boutella as the badass slicing and dicing Gazelle with her running blades, lispy, twisted tech genius Samuel L. Jackson, and a surprisingly agile, shooting, punching, and flipping Colin Firth who shatters the notion of pigeonholing—each and everyone one of these actors and actresses delivers an absolutely brilliant performance, making Kingsman a must see movie.

Manners maketh man.

Watch Sesame Street’s Perfect Parody of ‘House of Cards’

February 24, 2015 by Young K. in Media

Inspired by the classic fairy tale “The Three Little Pigs,” in Sesame Street’s "House of Bricks," ruthless Frank Underwolf will stop at nothing to get into the White Brick House. From Underwolf's Southern drawl, the pork-barrel politics pun, to the use of visual text messages, this masterful spoof is delightful and amplifies our excitement for the return of House of Cards on February 27.

Lady Gaga Performs 'Sound Of Music' Tribute At The Oscars

February 23, 2015 by Young K. in Media, Celebrity

This was the most spectacular and interesting moment of an otherwise boring Oscars. For the 50th anniversary of The Sound of Music, Lady Gaga sang four tracks from the film’s soundtrack at the 2015 Oscars — "The Sound of Music," "My Favorite Things," "Edelweiss" and "Climb Ev'ry Mountain." It was everything you hoped it would be and more.

The Terrifically Terrifying First Teaser For 'Crimson Peak'

February 18, 2015 by Young K. in Media

I’ve recently developed an obsession with the Victorian era after watching Showtime’s Penny Dreadful, and I’ve been a longtime fan of the master of horror and dark fantasy, Guillermo Del Toro. You can only imagine my excitement (okay, fanaticism) when I saw the first trailer for the horror thriller deemed Del Toro’s “ultimate masterpiece,” Crimson Peak. Period costumes, a haunted house, piano music, Pan’s Labyrinth-y creatures, and Tom Hiddleston? I can't handle these emotions.

Starring Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Charlie Hunnam, and Mia Wasikowska, Crimson Peak hits theaters on October 16 (just 239 days away!), just in time for my favorite holiday. The synopsis, via Universal Pictures, is as follows:

In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds ... and remembers.

Florence + The Machine Is Back With A New Song

February 10, 2015 by Young K. in Media

Florence + the Machine unveiled a new song, “How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful,” from their upcoming third studio album. They haven’t made an album in four years since 2011’s Ceremonials so this is kind of a big deal. The music video is a little bizarre but that’s okay because the lush instrumentals are beautiful.

Can’t get enough of them? Want to watch them live? Florence + the Machine will be playing at Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Governors Ball this summer before heading to Europe.
